The State of Mississippi regulates the home inspection industry through the Mississippi Real Estate Commission. There are two levels of licensure in the state. A standard home inspection license allows the inspector to work on existing housing. The inspection license is a 4 diget number. The license is renewed every two years. Liability insurance is a requirement for licensure. Insurance is renewed annually. Continuing education is a requirement as each inspector must obtain 10 hours for each two year term.

Inspectors of New Homes are required to have a specific license designation. The license is designated by "NH" beside the license number. An inspector who is qualified to inspect new homes must also become a licensed Code Inspector, as licensed by the International Code Council.
